Letter re Fired US Attorneys

Thank you to Sen. Dianne Feinstein for her Op-Ed “Why Democrats are Raising a Stink.” Despite a fierce effort from right-wing spinmeisters, the truth is getting out there. Yes, presidents do ask US Attorneys to resign. But they do it at the beginnings of their terms, not midway through.

Much more importantly, they do not attempt to twist the judicial process for political ends. That is the real scandal here. The Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress pressured US Attorneys to gin up false cases of corruption and voter fraud against their political opponents. This perversion of the judicial process is a trait you find in authoritarian states. It has no place in America.
